Xabi Alonso gets closer to Anfield as Liverpool submit an official request
According to caughtoffside, with 11 games remaining in the current Bundesliga season, Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen side still leads the German top division by eight points over second-placed Bayern Munich. Leverkusen are undefeated, having won 19 and drawn four of their 23 games thus far.
If the Spaniard can keep his squad focused on the task at hand for the next several months, this incredible season might end with Leverkusen’s first title. No small task, especially given that Bayern Munich has won the previous 11 titles in a row and was tipped to win a twelve before the 2023/24 season began.

It’s no surprise that Alonso’s old teams, Bayern Munich and Liverpool, are interested in signing him. Both teams will be without a manager this summer, as Thomas Tuchel and Jurgen Klopp, long-time rivals in Germany and close friends, will step down. Klopp needs to recuperate, and Tuchel has had a disastrous season at Bayern. The Reds look to have gotten ahead of Bayern, as has been the case under John Henry and FSG.
Xabi Alonso will have to make his intentions known
According to Sport BILD, the Anfield club has made its first official request to talk with their former player regarding the soon-to-be vacant management position. Though Leverkusen appear unconcerned about such an approach, it will be intriguing to observe what techniques they utilize now and whether Alonso himself is eager to move on.
