Arsenal can weaken Premier League opponents again in the summer market, as legend teases ‘big move’

According to express.co, ex-Arsenal player Gilberto Silva believes his former club may make another offer for Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz at the end of the season. The Gunners have harmed their Premier League opponents by acquiring some of their finest players in recent seasons, including Declan Rice from West Ham, Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko from Manchester City, and Jorginho from Chelsea.

Arsenal made significant investments in midfield ahead of this season, breaking their transfer record to sign Rice and also acquiring Kai Havertz, who is currently resuming his career at the Emirates Stadium after leaving Chelsea. Additional midfield additions should not be ruled out this summer, as the Premier League title contenders may bid farewell to Thomas Partey. Martin Zubimendi and Amadou Onana are among many midfielders who have been linked with a transfer to north London.

And Gunners cult star Silva feels Arsenal should renew their interest in Villa’s Luiz when the season comes to an end. The 25-year-old has been in excellent form at Villa Park under Unai Emery, and he has received a major vote of confidence from his fellow Brazilian. When asked about Luiz’s potential move to Arsenal, Silva told National World: “If not next season, maybe at some point; he’s progressing, he’s improving, and he’s very well adapted to the Premier League now.” And he’s demonstrating to himself that he can go to the next level.

“I personally really enjoy when a Brazilian player comes to the Premier League, which for me is the most difficult league to play, especially for South Americans – to come and adapt and do well.”But he’s proving himself and doing an excellent job, and I’m delighted to see another Brazilian join the league and perform so well. It keeps the door open for the Brazilian market, keeps the focus on Brazil, and why not Arsenal next season? It would be a fantastic move for the club, and I believe it would also benefit him.”

It remains to be seen if Arsenal would heed the counsel of their former player, having had two offers for Luiz rejected before. Arteta’s side has repeatedly sought to grab elite talent from their rivals in recent transfer windows, so negotiating a deal with high-flying Villa is not unfamiliar ground for the club. Arsenal has already recruited Jorginho, Rice, Havertz, Oleksandr Zinchenko, and Gabriel Jesus from rival clubs, and acquiring Luiz would add to that list while also damaging Villa’s position.
