Real Madrid perspective Nicolo Barella as Luka Modric’s replacement

According to thehardtackle, Real Madrid will aim to recruit 27-year-old Italian international Nicolo Barella to replace Luka Modric. As per Spanish website Fichajes, Real Madrid is interested in signing Nicolo Barella. Merengues are looking for a long-term successor for Luka Modric. Meanwhile, Inter Milan would expect about €60 million to part ways with the Italian international during the summer transfer window.

The Rise and Rise of Nicolo Barella

Nicolo Barella has emerged as one of the world’s top midfielders since joining Inter Milan. The Nerazzurri first signed him on loan from Cagliari, where he graduated, in July 2019, before completing a permanent transfer a year later. And he has made tremendous progress over the previous half-decade.

The 27-year-old has made almost 200 appearances for Inter Milan, scoring 22 goals and assisting 49 times. The Italian international was important in helping the Nerazzurri win the Scudetto in 2020/21 and is expected to spark another Serie A victory this season.

However, Inter Milan’s financial troubles may force the club to sell a high-value asset during the summer transfer window. Such an occurrence has not gone ignored, attracting the interest of numerous prominent teams. And Real Madrid may be one of his probable destinations. Meanwhile, the Serie A club will want about €60 million to sell him.

Real Madrid wants Barella as Luka Modric’s replacement

Real Madrid’s desire to sign Nicolo Barella is not new. The Merengues have a long-standing interest in the 51-cap Italian international. They are looking for a midfielder ahead of the summer transfer window, while Luka Modric’s future remains unknown.

The veteran Croat is nearing the end of his career and might leave Real Madrid in the summer transfer window. So, Real Madrid should plan for life beyond Modric, with Barella appearing as a potential option. Los Blancos should have the financial capacity to pay €60 million for Barella’s services.

The 51-cap Italian international may be the perfect like-for-like replacement. While Inter Milan would prefer not to sell Barella, if the financial concerns do not resolve themselves in the coming months, they may be forced to do so.
