Early Life

Trent John Alexander-Arnold was born in West Derby, Liverpool, on October 7, 1998. He attended St Matthew’s Catholic Primary School before enrolling at St Mary’s College in Crosby. Several pupils from his school were invited to a half-term camp hosted by the local football team, Liverpool, when he was six years old.

His name was drawn at random from a hat to be a participant. He was contacted by Ian Barrigan, the club’s academy coach, to join the program after he was spotted there. He began practicing two or three times a week in a variety of positions before going on to lead the club at the U16 and U18 levels under coach Pepijn Lijnders.


During his time at Liverpool’s academy, Alexander-Arnold switched from wide midfielder to right-back. Former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard, who wrote in his autobiography that he would have a fantastic career at the club, saw that he was doing well in his new position and gave him special attention. It was the role that gave him the quickest route to the starting lineup.

Trent Alexander-Arnold’s rapid growth led Brendan Rodgers to include him in the first team for the team’s last preseason friendly against Swindon Town, where he made his unofficial club debut in a 2-1 victory. This was done in anticipation of the 2015–16 campaign.
