Manchester City set their eyes on acquiring Douglas Luiz amid a ‘huge’ surprise

According to footballinsider247, Manchester City are increasing their interest in Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz ahead of the summer transfer season, according to sources. A reliable source has informed Football Insider that City manager Pep Guardiola is a “huge fan” of the 25-year-old midfielder.

Guardiola feels he has grown greatly over the previous two years and is ready to bring him back to the club, five years after leaving for Aston Villa. Man City included a buy-back clause in the sale, but that arrangement has now expired. The treble champions must now face the open market if they are to reach an agreement to bring Luiz back to the Etihad Stadium. Guardiola is a ‘big fan’ of £100 million-rated Aston Villa player Luiz.

According to sources, City are now prepared to go all out to capture the Brazil international, outbidding Premier League championship rivals Arsenal. Luiz has 10 goals and seven assists in 37 appearances in all competitions for Aston Villa this season, as the club looks to qualify for the Champions League.

Nonetheless, Football Insider reported on February 3 that Villa are likely to be forced to sell the midfielder this summer after putting a £100 million price tag on him.

Luiz’s deal with the Midlands giants runs until June 2026. He did not make a senior game for Manchester City during his stay at the Etihad Stadium, instead heading out on loan to sister club Girona.
