Barcelona prepare a three-man shortlist of managers to replace Xavi, Luis Enrique in contention

According to a report from barcauniversal, Barcelona is still looking for a new manager to replace Xavi Hernandez this summer.

The Catalans have had plenty of possibilities, ranging from Hansi Flick to Jurgen Klopp. However, in a recent update, Gerard Romero says that Barcelona has identified three major possibilities, and it would not be strange if one of them becomes the club’s coach next season.

The three managers involved are Hansi Flick, Roberto De Zerbi, and Luis Enrique. Barcelona has a diverse perspective on each of these issues.

Hansi Flick: A Realistic Option

According to Romero, Hansi Flick is the best-positioned contender to become Barcelona’s new coach next season.

The German is now a free agent with a successful track record of title wins. He achieved the triple with Bayern Munich in 2020. He also has a great friendship with Barcelona’s Robert Lewandowski and Ilkay Gundogan.

However, Romero warns that discussions with Flick are not ‘as closed’ as they appear, and it may take some time before the two parties can reach a deal.

Luis Enrique: The popular favorite

While Flick may be leading the race to become Barcelona’s next coach, the club’s internal squad looks to have a favorite in Luis Enrique.

According to Romero, certain members of the Barcelona board are ready to wait a little longer so that the club may pursue better market choices. They really want Enrique to be one of the choices. Unfortunately for Barcelona, the Spaniard will be unavailable in the upcoming summer, having only joined PSG last summer.

Roberto De Zerbi: The Wild Card.

Roberto De Zerbi is a wild card possibility for FC Barcelona. He was seen as one of the more realistic non-German targets for the Catalans.

De Zerbi is also highly regarded in the Barcelona camp, notably for his tactical acumen and ability to develop potential. At the same time, several in Barcelona’s ranks have reservations about the Italian, citing his lack of experience leading a great team.
