Liverpool news: Jurgen Klopp faces another blow as Xabi Alonso obtains crucial endorsement

According to mirror.co, Liverpool’s focus has shifted to the FA Cup as their celebrations for Sunday’s Carabao Cup victory fade. The Reds overcame Chelsea at Wembley Stadium to win their eighth major trophy under Jurgen Klopp. However, the victory came at a cost, as midfielder Ryan Gravenberch was injured, forcing Klopp to call on numerous youth players.

The entire nature of Gravenberch’s injury has finally been disclosed, inflicting the Reds even another setback. That revelation comes despite Gary Neville’s insistence that Klopp’s side are still among the favourites to win the Premier League championship. And, as Klopp prepares to leave at the end of the season, frontrunner Xabi Alonso has got a resounding endorsement from legendary manager Pep Guardiola. Here, Mirror Football compiles the most recent Liverpool news.

Klopp delivers another injury blow.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has stated that Ryan Gravenberch will miss the FA Cup match against Southampton due to injury. Gravenberch’s ankle ligaments were injured as a result of a tackle from Moises Caicedo, and Klopp was disappointed by the latest blow.

“All I know is that Ryan, among the others, is not accessible. It’s a ligament damage; it might have been much worse, but it’s serious enough to knock him out for this game and the next, and we’ll see what happens,” Klopp added. “We need miracles from a few guys, and it’s a toss-up with a number of players that couldn’t make the final. It’s a difficult situation since there are so many injuries, but all we can do so far is overlook who we’re missing.”

Manchester United star Gary Neville believes Liverpool will win the Premier League title despite their increasing injury list. Neville feels that Liverpool has a significant advantage over rivals Arsenal and Manchester City owing to Klopp.

“If they didn’t have Klopp as manager, I’d say that’s about as good as it gets. But with his final few months, and the passion and enthusiasm, you just know what’s going to happen,” he told The Gary Neville Podcast.

“I still don’t believe they will win the league. But they could. When I watch Arsenal, I believe they are a better team than Liverpool, but Liverpool is more ruthless. Liverpool has so much threat. And I believe it will ultimately be an issue.”

Guardiola endorses Alonso.

Pep Guardiola has praised Xabi Alonso, who is the leading candidate to succeed Jurgen Klopp. While Guardiola did not push for Liverpool to hire him, he did say that the Bayer Leverkusen manager was on top of his game.

“If you ask me about the work he’s doing, honestly? Wow! It’s the only club in contemporary football that has gone undefeated in all competitions and is competing in the same way as Bayern Munich,” Guardiola stated. “Now is the most vital time of the season for them. But amazing, not only the way they play; they haven’t lost a single game in the Europa League, [DFB] Pokal in Germany, or the Bundesliga, and the way they’re playing.
