The West Ham failure has set up a Manchester United standout for his England debut

A report from caughtoffsides claims that while one door appears to close for an accomplished West Ham ace, another appears to open for one of Man United’s recent additions. In the realm of football, one can only be as good as their most recent performance, and Kalvin Phillips’ performance was not particularly impressive.

The on-loan player’s first touch against West Ham gave Bournemouth the lead, another lapse in concentration gave Man United the lead at Old Trafford, and his last game at Nottingham Forest resulted in his own dismissal. A player whose career was stalling at Man City isn’t exactly off to the ideal start in East London.

Gareth Southgate’s commitment had allowed Phillips to stay in the international lineup even if he was unable to push his way into Pep Guardiola’s starting XI.

The England manager does, however, have choices at the position, so Phillips may not automatically make the European Championship team even if it was thought that he would be given more playing time between now and the conclusion of the 2023–2024 season.

The Daily Mail claims that Southgate has complete control over Kobbie Mainoo, United’s rising superstar adolescent. If Phillips can’t get his act together, he may lose out to James Garner of Everton and Harrison Reed of Fulham, who are reportedly also being considered.
