Kylian Mbappe might prevent Arsenal from signing Ivan Toney, as Edu confronts a new dilemma

According to express.co, Arsenal are great admirers of Ivan Toney, but Kylian Mbappe might help prevent the Gunners from signing the Brentford center-forward this summer. The Paris Saint-Germain forward has informed the Ligue 1 club that he plans to depart as a free agent at the end of the season, with Real Madrid the most likely destination.

However, Mbappe’s departure from Paris for Madrid might have an impact on Arsenal’s chances of winning the Premier League. That is because Victor Osimhen is one of PSG’s key replacement possibilities for the Frenchman. The Napoli No. 9, who led the Italian giants to the Serie A victory last season, has scored 39 goals and assisted eight more in his previous 57 appearances. Chelsea have been pursuing the 25-year-old Nigerian as a potential leader for the team starting next season.

However, because they saved £170 million per year by losing Mbappe, PSG will be able to pay Osimhen high salaries while also invoking the £113 million release clause in his Napoli deal. According to the Evening Standard, Chelsea are already looking for replacements, including Brentford’s Toney. After scoring Brentford’s consolation goal against Liverpool in a 4-1 defeat on Saturday, the 27-year-old now has four goals in five games since returning from an eight-month betting suspension. He is on track to finish the season with more than ten goals, having scored 20 in 33 games last season.

And, while Arsenal are now a highly enticing club to join, with Mikel Arteta’s squad qualified Premier League championship contenders and a big player in the Champions League, Chelsea will provide strong competition for Toney’s services. According to some sources, the England international with one cap is their new top goal.

Toney is expected to cost around £80 million, despite the fact that his Brentford contract expires in 2025, and Chelsea may try to outbid Arsenal – either on the transfer money or the salary offered to the striker. That would make sports director Edu’s job more difficult, since Chelsea has more players to dispose to earn finances this summer than the Gunners.

Bees manager Thomas Frank has previously revealed that Toney may depart in the summer, and the player has often hinted at a move away from the Gtech Community Stadium.

He stated last month, “You can never predict when it is the right time to move elsewhere, but I believe it is clear that I want to play for a top club.” Everybody aspires to play for a good team that competes for championships.”

While it suggests Arsenal is a more likely destination, Chelsea will do everything they can to persuade Toney that Stamford Bridge is the perfect location for him. This season, the Blues have drastically underperformed their predicted goals, with only Everton doing worse.
