A timely boost was given to Jurgen Klopp, as Liverpool may be concerned about four injuries

The Premier League match against Luton Town tomorrow is expected to see Kaide Gordon return to Liverpool’s first squad, according to liverpoolworld. Injury issues might ruin the Reds’ championship bid. Diogo Jota, Darwin Nunez, and Curtis Jones’ injuries marred last Saturday’s 4-1 triumph against Brentford.

Jurgen Klopp said Jota’s knee injury was worse than Nunez and Jones’ when he was stretchered off in the first half. Jones was substituted before halftime, and Nunez, who scored the first with a great finish, was another question.

At Brentford, Jota’s absence forced Mo Salah to come on earlier than Klopp wanted. After a four-week layoff due to a hamstring injury he received for Egypt at the African Cup of Nations, Liverpool’s captain returned. Salah set up Alexis Mac Allister’s goal to extend Liverpool’s advantage before scoring his 19th of the season. Salah may miss Luton due to a recurrence of his injury, according to Ahmed Shobair on OnTime Sports. Pre-game news conference: Klopp will update.

Liverpool will be limited even with Salah. While Nunez is uncertain, Jota is out. Senior attackers Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo, who scored off the bench against Brentford, are further options for Klopp. Klopp will want more offensive firepower on the bench, although Harvey Elliott can play out wide. Since December, highly-rated 18-year-old winger Ben Doak has been out after knee surgery.

However, Klopp and his coaches trust Gordon. Gordon made four appearances as a 17-year-old in 2021-22 after joining from Derby County for up to £3 million three years earlier. In a 4-1 FA Cup triumph over Shrewsbury Town, he became Liverpool’s youngest FA Cup scorer at 17 years and 96 days. He started the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium when Salah and Sadio Mane were at AFCON.

Gordon missed all 2022-23 games due to a complicated pelvic condition related to his growing. Given his absence, Liverpool were cautious with his comeback this season. Gordon played 75 minutes for Klopp’s side in a 2-1 Europa League loss to Union SG in December after returning for the under-21s against Middlesbrough in September. A late substitution cameo also occurred in a 4-0 Premier League triumph against Bournemouth last month.

Gordon has played three times for the under-21s since then and is in excellent form. He scored a penalty in last weekend’s 2-1 win against Newcastle United after assisting against Fulham and Stoke City. “Kaide was brilliant,” remarked young Reds coach Barry Lewtas following the Stoke triumph. I assumed he was tired, but he ran into the box to defend late in the game.

“He shone out there!” He was great first half between the lines, not to single anyone out but I thought we were terrific. He played more within the pitch and dribbled centrally in our setup, which suited him. We showed the boys a video of our game against Fulham and Kaide was doing similar things.”
